My name is Joanna Figueroa and I am a  26 year old free spirited person. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York by my maternal grandparents. However, my family is originally from Utuado, Puerto Rico. I am trilingual, I speak Spanish, English, and know bit of American Sign Language. I love to draw, play piano/guitar/ukulele, sing, and write poetry and fiction. I'm a big dreamer and an even bigger believer that everything happens for a reason. I know without a doubt that my purpose in life is to help people cope with whatever they are struggling with, as well as to help them reach their full potential! Currently, I am a CUNY BA student attending Medgar Evers College pursing a Bachelor 's degree in Educational Psychology. I plan to get my Master's degree in either Art, Music, or Drama Therapy. I would very much like to work with adolescents and young adults in the LGBTQ community who have been diagnosed with a mental illness, in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. After graduating with my Master's, I plan to join the Peace Corps. Once I've started and I'm well into my career, I plan to become a Foster parent and open up a home for homeless LGBTQ teens. Much like Charles De Lint once said, "I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can't change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit."
