Goal: Candidates possess a comprehensive understanding of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and Education Foundations’ content, concepts and modes of inquiry and make connections among disciplines.
Objectives/Outcomes
1.1 Understand liberal arts and sciences content (the what of disciplines), concepts
(generalizations about content), and the modes and methods of inquiry (the how of disciplines).
1.2 Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the relevant and significant ideas across disciplines.
1.3 Use technology proficiently and understand its potential as a tool for teaching and learning.
1.4 Make connections between disciplinary content and the New York Standards for Student Learning.
1.5 Connect content across disciplines.
1.6 Understand how best to teach what they know about the major disciplines, curriculum, practices and strategies for learning, and the appropriate assessment devices.
1.7 Create and select teaching methods, activities and materials that are aligned with the New York Standards for Student Learning.
1.8 Design and implement research by raising their own questions and using appropriate resources and methodologies to answer those questions.
1.9 Understand the ethical and moral dimensions associated with teaching and learning.
1.10 Understand child development, characteristics, and needs.
1.11 Understand exceptionalities and the impact these conditions have on the development and performance of children.
