A Democratic Classroom, by Steven Wolk

I like the idea of democratic classrooms since it encourages students to share ideas and opinions, which will help the students to participate in sharing. This will help the the students in becoming more engaged in decision making. This kind of environment encourages creativity if it is done in a proper manner.  Even though students may vioce their opinion the final authority belongs to the teacher.  I wish that more schools would follow this type of classroom setting because many kids who are shy in the classroom are often left out of the conversation. when you have a democratic classroom it helps the shy students to get involve and voice their opinion.  The goal of democratic education is to empower young people to be autonomous, responsible members of their community and the larger world. Democratic education is rooted in meaningful challenge to the learner, while also being responsive and relevant to the larger community.
