Race and Respect Among Young Children

By Rita Tenorio

In this article Ms. Tenorio discusses the issue of race and power. The teacher believes that children are not “color blind” and they have a sophisticated understanding of race and power. She expresses her concern, because she like most teachers feels they should be able to resolve problems children encounter in schools every day. For example, name calling, taunting, racial slurs and other forms of intimidation. She believes in a culturally sensitive teacher who can deal with issues of biases. There is really no difference; we are all one people no matter the differences of skin color, type of hair or other. Race do not exist
